“HE PRAYED” (Part 3)

“Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, (‭John‬ ‭17‬:‭1‬ NASB)

AUTHORITY OF BELIEVER

What “things” did Jesus speak about prior to this moment to which John refers? The authority of His disciples in prayer.  “In that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full…In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf; for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came forth from the Father” (John‬ ‭16‬:‭23-24, 26-27‬ NASB).
CONFIDENCE IN PRAYER

Having served the Lord for over 37 years, I have observed an unusual phenomena among God’s people. The lack of consistent prayer. Why is this so? I am convinced that one of the main reasons is the lack of confidence in receiving answers to prayer. Meaning that many do not believe that their voice heard by God makes a difference. And yet, Jesus assures us that not only do our prayers make a difference on earth. He tells His disciples several things in this regard.
(1) We have a personal relationship with God. He is our Father. Therefore He longs to hear from us(See John 16:23). Again, later John writes,”This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him” (1 John‬ ‭5‬:‭14-15‬ NASB)

This passage tells us how eager our heavenly Father is to give what we ask in prayer BEFORE a manifestation of the answer. He told the prophet Jeremiah, “‘Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’ “(‭Jeremiah‬ ‭33‬:‭3‬ NASB)

(2) We have a loving Father. Everything God does for His children is motivated by His love. God does not merely HAVE love. God IS love and therefore can do no less than manifest that love toward us when pray to Him.  Yeshua said,”If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!” (‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭11‬ NASB)

(3) As part of God’s forever family in Yeshua/Jesus we have equality as sons and daughters of God with the Son(Galatians 4:7; Romans 8:17).
In regards to confidence in prayer, Yeshua/Jesus assures His disciples that their voice in prayer carries the same authority as His if we are “in Christ”.  “Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full…In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf; for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came forth from the Father” (‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭24, 26-27‬ NASB).

George Mueller believed God’s Word was equal to God’s character and for over 67 years proved the faithful care of God. He started with care for a handful of orphans; growing to 300 and eventually trusting God’s providence and care only through the agency of prayer. When someone who had read the testimonies of the miracles of God’s provision in answer to prayer, they said to Mr. Mueller, “What great faith you have!” To which George Mueller replied, “I don’t consider that I have any great faith. But the difference is…When others quit, I keep going!”  What was for him an “Open Secret” can be ours as well. Yeshua/Jesus said, “”Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened” (‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭7-8‬ NASB).

Keep praying. Ask…Seek…Knock!
