“The path of the righteous shines more and more until the full light of day”. (Proverbs 4:18).

When God wanted a people with whom He could fellowship He shows Moses a pattern in heaven. This pattern given was what has become known as Moses Tabernacle. It was really “God’s Tabernacle” shown to Moses. One of the most important pieces of furniture shown was the Menorah or Lampstand which was to be placed in the Holy Place or the Tabernacle of the Congregation.”The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to Aaron and say to him, ‘When you set up the lamps, see that all seven light up the area in front of the lampstand.’ ” Aaron did so; he set up the lamps so that they faced forward on the lampstand, just as the Lord commanded Moses. (Numbers 8:1-3 NIV)

Aaron as the high priest was directly responsible for the Lampstand (Candlestick). He was to both carry it and care for the light or flame upon it. God spoke to him to see that the light not go out.  Today, we have a great high priest, Yeshua (Jesus) who sees that the Lampstand burns in the holy place of our hearts continually. The scriptures tell us that “The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord”. In other words, when we receive the life of Jesus Christ, the Spirit of God makes our spirit alive.  We come alive(Born again) by His Spirit (See John 1:12-13).

No matter how many times Israel moved about in the wilderness, Aaron was responsible to see that the light travelled with them. Yeshua, both our great high priest and the true Lampstand goes with us on our journey.   He said,”I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness”(John 8:12).  We need not fear that the darkness of this world will overtake us as long as we follow Yeshua (Jesus) the true Light source.  Paul wrote, “We are children of the light, children of the day not of the night” (1 Thessalonians 5:5).

Aaron and his sons were to make sure that the lamps on the top of the Lampstand were clean, with trimmed wicks and supplied with fresh, pure olive oil.  When (Yeshua) Jesus ministers to us it is by the agency of the Holy Spirit in our spiritual being.  There is a reason He is called the “Holy Spirit”.  It is because He does not represent man’s carnal interest, foremost, but  the primary interest of the Father and the Son’s (See Philippians 1:6; 2:13; John 16;12-15).  The more we walk in the fullness of His Holy Spirit the purer and brighter the flame shines.  This is the applied meaning of the Candlestick having buds, blossoms and fruit” on each of its golden branches (See Exodus 25:31-35).

The apostle Paul wrote, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:22-25 NASB).   If we are true carriers of His light we are true bearers of His fruitful character and nature.

Aaron was to see that the flame was burning “evening and morning”.   Note the order. God’s order in creation was “The evening and the morning was the first day….The evening and the morning was the second day”,etc.(Genesis 1)  So, too, it is in the order of redemption.  Evening proceeds the morning, darkness is before the light.  Remember the children of Israel waited until night engulfed Egypt before they were liberated from their bondage.  So this applies to today.

There may be darkness around you, which suggests that you have to submit to its power. But never forget that evening proceeds morning. Light shines forth to swallow up the darkness and lead us to the perfect day. The captain of a seafaring vessel doesn’t hope that the Lighthouse is dimly lit when coming through thick midst and darkness.  He hopes that it is shining a brilliant light in order to bring the vessel safely into harbor!  So…Keep the pure oil in those lamps and keep the holy fire burning!
