The Appointed Time(Part 2)

“Thou wilt arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to be gracious to her. For the appointed time has come.” (Psalm 102:13)

Who is not aware  that today we are facing the fact of a fatherless generation? This fact needs to be filtered through the history of Israel which is recorded for our instruction. (Read Romans 15:4)

Israel was delivered from Egypt in God’s time, God’s way, for God’s purpose. And yet there was failure on their part (as a first generation) to reach their divine destiny. But, as the psalmist reminds us in Psalm 102, their failure would not cause God to fail in His good purpose. He writes, “A generation yet created shall praise the Lord”(Psalm 102: 18). When would this take place? At the appointed time. God has a special moment when He rises as it were from His throne and fulfills all that He has purposed in His Son, Christ Jesus. Paul reminds us that everything was prepared for Christ. “It is through His Son that we have redemption—that is, our sins have been forgiven. He is the visible image of the invisible God. He is supreme over all creation, because in connection with Him all things were created—in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, lordships, rulers or authorities—they have all been created through Him and for Him”(Colossians 1:14-16 Complete Jewish Bible).

Most of the first generation of Israelites died in the wilderness, though they had been delivered from Egypt. Why? Not because of the length of the journey through the wilderness. Most scholars agree that they could have been in the promised land within a minimum of two weeks (On foot!). Nor did they fail to arrive because they lost their way. Paul gives a sad commentary of their first generational history: “For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ. Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness”(1 Corinthians 10:1-5). Please note that although they did experience the supernatural protection and provision of God under Moses’ leadership, bringing them out from Egypt, most of that generation died in the wilderness because of “the fathers” over them.

Each tribe was to have a father over their tribe, one for each of the twelve tribes, to go and spy out the land and bring back a report. Only two fathers (Joshua and Caleb) came back with faith in their heart and a good report on their lips. The other ten fathers of their tribe came back in unbelief and a bad report. The results? Because of the fathers ’unbelief, their entire tribe and generation died in the wilderness. Today, there is a cry upon a new generation of believers, “Where are the fathers who can lead us into our promised land?” They recognize that signs and wonders alone will not fulfill the need or lack of fathered sons in this critical hour.

God’s way is to use fathers to bring the Father heart of God to His children in order that they might carry forward a legacy of His grace and glory into the earth. It takes the grace of fatherhood in the house of God to give to the household what is needed in this awesome hour in which we are living. Please notice that Abraham, “the father of the faithful”, makes this a matter of argument and intercession before God after his great victory over the five kings.(See further Genesis 14). He says, in essence, after God appears to him, “What good is a victory if I have no son to carry on my legacy? I don’t want Eliezer, my servant, to be my heir”(Read Genesis 15). Abraham understood that sons are to be heirs–not servants. So it is true in this hour, God is taking those with servant hearts to become sons in His house (Read Matthew 13:51-52 & Galatians 4:1-7). In the spiritual economy of God only mature sons can rule over His household. This is an appointed time when this process is taking place in the earth.
